Godavari Dange speaks at the “CBA14 setting the stage: from crisis to climate action” on Covid-19 and Community Based Adaptation
Godavari Dange, Secretary of the Sakhi Federation, Maharashtra, India and grassroots leader of Swayam Shikshan Prayog and the Huairou Governing Council member, spoke at the International Conferences on Community Based Adaptation (CBA) organised annually by the International Institute for Environment and Development (IIED) together with its partners to center stage community practitioners’ solutions in addressing climate change. Prior to the 14th Annual Conference that will be hosted online in September 2020, a taster session was held on July 21 to scope the forthcoming discussion themes to online events. In this regard, the pre-event focused on community-led adaptations to Covid-19 and its implications to shape future climate action.
Godavari joined the event as a panelist where she spoke about the initiatives taken up by her federation’s women leaders to combat the Covid-19 crisis and to enhance community resilience by ensuring food, nutrition and livelihood security.
, Godavari emphasised the role played by organised grassroots women’s networks to address the issue of migrant workers and vulnerable community members, in partnership with the local government. Their federation has facilitated access to free ration for 10,000 families under the Public Distribution System and supported around 3,500 migrant workers with jobs under the National Rural Employment Guarantee Program.
