Our Vision of a Sustainable and Resilient Recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic: Grassroots Women and Local Government Speak-out

The event will highlight the effort of organized grassroots groups and local governments in addressing the Covid-19 pandemic, the initiatives and tools they employ to ensure sustainability and resilience and how they are adapting the lesson learned in developing their recovery plans and programmes.

In general, recovery plan from any disaster, in this case – the Covid-19 pandemic, is usually led by the national government. However, as we experienced the pandemic, we know that in reality, both organized – grassroots groups and local government are front-liners coming up with different quick and timely solutions to complement those coming from the national government.

As we embark on developing policy, plan and programmes for sustainable and resilience recovery from the pandemic, it is important to ensure inclusive participatory process – listen and take note of the vision from those on the ground, the organised grassroots groups and local government. We want to make sure that the future “new-normal” is not business-as-usual, that we build forward together in partnership, recognising the importantb roles of each entity, that we will not achieve the SDGs without localising the action on the ground, and empowering those partners.

Discussion will focus on at least four (4) of the SDGs identified by the Forum that would accelerate transformations for the implementation of the 2030 Agenda while recovering from COVID-19.
