The organization accounts for 30 members and eight affiliated organizations in mainly rural areas, who are engaged primarily in five core areas: HIV/AIDS, domestic and gender-based violence prevention, sexual reproductive health and rights, mental health issues, disaster preparedness awareness, and sensitization from a gender perspective.

To support the capacity building of grassroots women, GROOTS Trinidad & Tobago (GROOTS T&T) provides peer support, counseling and psychosocial support. The organization additionally created a mobile caravan where medical and legal services will be taken to rural communities for the benefit of women and girls who are not able to access such services due to the financial constraints. The communities are also able to access certified training of HIV/AIDS and STIs testers. GROOTS T&T became a member of Huairou Commission (HC) in 2014. The organization was attracted by the HC’s ability and dedication to connecting grassroots women globally. Moreover, GROOTS T&T was interested in joining the international grassroots movement as a part of Caribbean region.[/vc_column_text][vc_separator border_width=”2″][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/2″][gva_icon_box title=”8 Affiliated Organizations” icon_position=”left” image=”4555″][/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/2″][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][vc_separator border_width=”2″][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/2″][vc_column_text]Contact Person: Delores Robinson[/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/2″][vc_column_text]Email: delletrobinson@yahoo.com[/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][vc_separator border_width=”2″][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/2″][vc_column_text]Facebook[/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/2″][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][/vc_tta_section][vc_tta_section title=”Sistren Theatre Collective” tab_id=”1588755443760-aa2ecc42-0fb3″][vc_column_text]Sistren Theatre Collective (STC) is facilitating NGO in Jamaica. Members come from a wide range of backgrounds: students, youth groups, unemployed and professional people. The scope of work varies from teenage parenthood, health and sexual violence, crime and violence, housing, migration, justice and economic policy, gender justice and capacity building for organizations.

To enhance capacity building for grassroots women, STC has used educational workshops on leadership, film screening, psychological rehabilitation in inner cities communities across Jamaica. Performing and visual arts are also used to ease drama and address personal issues among women. The emphasis is on collective analysis of problems and discussions of possible solutions through networking with local, regional and international organizations. Moreover, the grassroots groups also organize street theater on various topics like parenting and gang violence that are followed by community discussions where residents express themselves on the issues highlighted in the street theater.[/vc_column_text][vc_separator border_width=”2″][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/2″][gva_icon_box title=”15 Affiliated Organizations” icon_position=”left” image=”4555″][/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/2″][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][vc_separator border_width=”2″][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/2″][vc_column_text]Contact Person: Lana Finikin[/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/2″][vc_column_text]Email: sistrentheatre@gmail.com[/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][vc_separator border_width=”2″][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/2″][vc_column_text]Facebook[/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][/vc_tta_section][/vc_tta_accordion][/vc_column][/vc_row]

[vc_row full_width=”stretch_row” el_class=”bg-banner” css=”.vc_custom_1588239595531{margin-top: -100px !important;}”][vc_column][vc_row_inner css=”.vc_custom_1588239617067{padding-top: 200px !important;padding-bottom: 200px !important;background-position: center !important;background-repeat: no-repeat !important;background-size: cover !important;}”][vc_column_inner][vc_custom_heading text=”Carribean Region” use_theme_fonts=”yes” el_class=”custom-h2″][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_btn title=”Back to Members” shape=”square” align=”right” link=”url:https%3A%2F%2Fhuairou.org%2Fmembers%2F|||” el_class=”back-btn”][vc_tta_accordion active_section=”1″][vc_tta_section title=”GROOTS Jamaica” tab_id=”1592792534605-4f1115b8-7a8f”][vc_column_text]GROOTS Jamaica is a grassroots organization network that joined Huairou Commission in 2009.
