Senior Staff Changes at the Huairou Commission
In late March, the Huairou Commission Board of Directors announced the departure of Katia Araujo, Director of Programs, and Maureen Friar, Executive Director, noting:
Since joining our staff in 2007, Katia has made innumerable contributions to the Huairou network’s program and policy advocacy work. She began by overseeing the Women’s Land Link Africa (WLLA) program, and has in recent years played a pivotal role in bringing our Community Resilience program to scale in 23+ countries. Katia additionally spearheaded the development of Land and Housing at Huairou, expertly representing our members’ policy priorities in the UN-Habitat Global Land Tools Network and in her role as co-chair of the International Land Coalition Council, where she championed gender-responsive land governance policies that empower grassroots women.
We are deeply appreciative of Katia’s contributions and we wish her the best in moving on to new opportunities at Landesa, in a field where we can continue to collaborate. Mino Ramaroson, African Regional Coordinator, will assume responsibility for Huairou’s land governance work.
The executive members of the Huairou Commission Board of Directors are committed to growing a skilled leadership team and realizing our organization’s transition to a grassroots, member-led network. Our programs and advocacy remain focused on building sustainable, resilient development that fully empowers women as agents of change in their local communities.
