Meet Godavari Dange

Godavari Dange has dedicated over 23 years to enabling community-led sustainable development, spending 10 of those years as a leader and organizer of grassroots women’s federations. She began her work as a member of a village savings group after the Latur earthquake in India in 1993, and went on to become a leader of federations of savings and credit groups with more than 500 member groups spread over 110 villages. In 2005 when the federation was linked to a community micro-finance company, Godavari was appointed to the loan committee to screen applications and monitor repayments. She also joined a small grassroots business development team that provides strategic advice and support to grassroots entrepreneurs.

  • As a key grassroots leader in disaster risk reduction, Godavari has traveled widely to share her experiences.

Godavari was awarded Best Trainer at District Level by the District Rural Development Authority of Osmanabad District and has presented the accomplishments of her federation at several national and global peer learning exchanges, Grassroots Academies, and International conferences. As a key grassroots leader in disaster risk reduction, Godavari has traveled widely to share her experiences as an expert panelist at regional and global forums such as the 3 rd World Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction in March 2015 in Sendai, Japan and the 2012 AWID Forum on Women’s Rights and Development in Istanbul, Turkey.
