The Huairou Commission promotes tools and methodologies that encourage grassroots women to recognize, value and exchange their knowledge and practices. Grassroots Academies connect grassroots women to each other, empowering them to trust and implement their own expertise.
Grassroots Academies bring together 30-100 participating women from multiple communities, organizations and countries. They are held prior to large policy events, such as a UN conference, so that grassroots women can meet each other, hone their messaging and share best practices. This process encourages women to recognize their own successful development practices, and to share and analyze them in order to critically reflect on larger political and development issues.
Our Grassroots Academy methodology won the Dubai Best Practices Award in 2006.
