Huairou Commission’s Oral Statement at the Second Session of UN-Habitat Executive Board 2022
The Executive Board of UN-Habitat held its second session for the year 2022 for three days from 21 to 23 November 2022.
Sri Husnini Sofjan, Senior Program Administrator and Strategist at the Huairou Commission delivered an oral statement at the The Second Session of 2022 Executive Board The United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) on November 22, 2022. Sri delivered the statement on behalf of Violet Shivutse, the Chair of Huairou Commission’s Governing Council and Founder-Director of Shibuye Community Health Workers, Kenya who represents Huairou’s global grassroots and women’s constituency.
Her statement highlighted the leadership that organised grassroots women’s groups are taking locally in their communities that lead to increased access to basic services, through the use of tools such as community mapping, dialogues and advocacy with the local governments and other stakeholders, and mobilising and leveraging resources for implementation of the New Urban Agenda (NUA).
Through the statement, Huairou called for recognition of grassroots women as change agents and experts in the localising the NUA, and their representation in all stages of program planning and implementation.
