Speaker Circle:Fourth World Conference of Women Beijing 1995, Celebrating its Leaders
The objective of this event is to celebrate and recognize the thousands of women and women’s organizations who, through their activism, secured commitments to gender equality and defined strategies for reclaiming, defending and expanding democratic spaces for women and girls around the world.
The Fourth World Conference on Women in Beijing was the most extensive meetings to promote women’s rights ever held to mobilized the participation of Civil Society from around the world, claiming women’s right to development, economic, social, political, gender, and environmental justice. The power of their advocacy and mobilization secured the unprecedented commitment by the then world’s leaders, enshrined in the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, which remains the most progressive blueprint ever for advancing women’s rights and a powerful source of guidance and inspiration.
