2017 Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction

Cancun, Mexico

Wednesday to Friday, May 24-26

The Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction is recognized by the UN General Assembly as the main global forum for reviewing progress on disaster risk reduction (DRR). Established in 2006, the Global Platform is now the world’s foremost gathering of stakeholders committed to reducing disaster risk and building the resilience of communities and nations. Biennial sessions feature a high-level dialogue bringing together heads of state and government, ministers, mayors and parliamentarians and leaders from the private sector, science and civil society.

Taking place in Cancun, Mexico, the 2017 Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction will be the first time this important DRR forum will be staged outside Geneva. It will be the international community’s first opportunity to review global progress in the implementation of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction (adopted in Japan in 2015). UNISDR expects more than 5,000 participants, including policy makers and disaster risk managers.
