Communications Coordinator

Huairou Commission seeks an adaptable, articulate, highly-motivated professional with at least five years of nonprofit communications experience to actively support our communications efforts as Communications Coordinator.

About the Position:
The Communications Coordinator is a full-­‐time position expected to play a crucial role in supporting and creatively enhancing Huairou’s ability to build and maintain excellent internal and external communications, attract support and inform members and external actors of our activities. The Communications Coordinator will work closely with the Senior Management team to develop the overall of Huairou’s communication strategy and communications brand (including e-communications templates, infographics and other visual representations), coordination of Huairou’s e-newsletters (HC Update for external audience and Member Bulletin for member groups, social media (Face Book, Twitter), engagement with media, response to general inquiries and management of Huairou’s website vendor.

A. External Communications

  • Develop and implement messaging strategy aligned with the mission and vision of Huairou Commission.

  • Prepare and/or oversee the preparation of HC’s monthly newsletters, “Members Bulletin” (internal) and “HC News” (external)

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive social media strategy – Facebook, Twitter, YouTube. and LinkedIn.

  • Oversee the rebuilding, coordinate continuous development and maintenance of Huairou’s website – include collaborate with staff on website needs, develop tools or web solutions and ensure website content is relevant and up to date.

  • Track, analyze and report on social media and website metrics and performance; adjust editorial and messaging strategy accordingly to grow traffic and engagement.

  • Build, coordinate and maintain media list and relationships with global media outlets,; draft and distribute press releases and media alerts to well-targeted media lists relevant like-minded organizations.

B. Internal Communications

  • Coordinate communications with members and supporting member communication strategies, including providing structure for the members communications committee

  • Manage existing, and develop new, Huairou communications assets – logos, templates, infographics, project portfolios, fact sheets, case studies etc.

  • Create and maintain catalog of digital assets (photo and video gallery for NHT and its affiliated entities). Maintain photo release documents.

C. Collanboration

  • Develop and maintain cohesive materials, including coordinating with consultants, that support the needs of all Huairou members’ practices and programmatic activities.

  • Write and edit content for the range of HC’s audiences in collaboration with HC leadership, staff and board

  • Coordinate print materials, including the Annual Report and other relevant publications designed to promote Huairou and its work to donors, partners and relevant parties interested to invest in members’ practices and programmatic activities

  • Support creation of effective case studies and related promotional materials

  • Assist in the development and maintenance of an advisory board of communications experts

  • Managing contact lists of members, supporters and general constituents

  • Maintaining consistent style guidelines

  • Manage and edit content produced by staff freelance writers

  • Grow the existing cadre of staff freelance writers

  • Develop and maintain cohesive materials, including coordinating with consultants, that support the needs of all Huairou members’ practices and programmatic activities.

Required

  • At least five years’ experience in nonprofit communications, including communications planning, social media management, website management and communications design management

  • Excellent writing, editing interpersonal and organizational skills

  • Demonstrated success working as a member of a team and developing effective working relationships with staff, board members, and vendors

  • Ability to respond adeptly to rapidly changing priorities, successfully multi-task as necessary and work well under pressure

  • Meticulous attention to detail

  • Experience with publishing software (e.g., Adobe InDesign), CMS, and mail-blast software such as Mail Chimp

  • Bilingual- English/Spanish

Preferred

  • Familiar with grassroots women’s issues globally, and especially with grassroots women’s roles in development as they relate to climate change, resilience, disaster risk reduction and recovery, community development, environment and related matters.

  • Familiar with the Sustainable Development Goals and related international agreements that grassroots women leaders and their allies leverage to achieve their goals.

  • Strong understanding of nonprofit management, infrastructure and capacity building

  • Experience working with media in pitching or placing stories

Web Designer and Developer

Huairou Commission is seeking a website designer and developer to work with our staff to create a new website for the organization and its many members and partners around the world.

Huairou Commission is building a new website that will:

  • Reflect that we are a global grassroots women’s movement

  • Be compelling and easily to navigate by grassroots women, global stakeholders and donors as well as to the general public

  • Help the organization grow audience engagement

  • Support compelling narratives for the media to report on Huairou Commission’s initiatives

SCOPE OF WORK

A. Design Elements

  • A site that clearly communicates HC’s work on grassroots women’s movements, issues and roles in development

  • A responsive and dynamic website easily accessible from any device

  • A user friendly interface that is easy to navigate on the main browsers (Google Chrome, Internet explorer, Safari) for the range of our audiences, many of whom are in remote areas around the world and rely solely on cell phones for access

  • A system that is user friendly for those editing content from the content management system back office

  • A system that allows for content (text, images, etc.) produced internally at Huairou Commission to be imported easily

  • A color palette, fonts, logotypes and related elements

  • A style guide to accompany the final design

    • A PowerPoint template following said-style guide

  • A design: (i) that will help to increase traffic and engagement; (ii) in which the organization’s social media feeds are embedded;(iii) that will allow for the easy display and updating of announcements on the homepage; (iv) that can accommodate different forms of user engagement and interaction.

  • A two-minute video to introduce the organization on the homepage produced by the web designer/developer

B. Web Development

  • Mirror website in Spanish with room to add other languages in the future

  • Light website that loads easily

  • A donations system that allows for tracking of donor’s name, email address, amount of donation, and purpose of donation

  • Include breadcrumbs navigation

C. Maintenance

    • In cooperation with Huairou Commission staff, conduct search engine optimization audits to improve the website and make it search engine effective

    Be available on a regular basis to provide technical support and to maintain the site (frequency and elements to be determined)
