Huairou Commission Statement at the Stakeholder Consultations on the Political Declaration for the Sendai Framework MTR
On February 27, 2023, Theresa Makwara from Zimbabwe Parents of Children with Disabilities Association (ZPHCA) delivered a statement at the Stakeholder Consultations on the Political Declaration for the Sendai Framework MTR on behalf of the Huairou Commission.
What is the Political Declaration for the Sendai Framework MTR?
The UN General Assembly decided that the Sendai Framework MTR Review High-Level Meeting (in May 2023) will adopt an action-oriented political declaration to renew commitment and accelerate the implementation of the Sendai Framework, agreed in advance by consensus through intergovernmental negotiations led by two co-facilitators to be appointed by the President of the General Assembly.
The political declaration will inform the quadrennial review of the SDGs at the ECOSOC High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development in July of 2023, and the deliberations of Member States and stakeholders at the SDGs Summit during the 78th Session of the UN General Assembly in September 2023.
As an active member of the SEM and leader of its Local Communities Stakeholder Group, the Huairou Commission has actively contributed to the Sendai MTR process. Read Theresa Makwara’s statement below.
