Grassroots Mechanism Workshop

Global Land Tools Network

Nairobi, Kenya

The Huairou Commission, a partner in GLTN, is working to ensure the involvement of grassroots women's participation in land tool development initiatives such as the GLTN's Grassroots Mechanism. Our focus is to ensure that grassroots women are at the center of development, and as such, that they are active participants in land management and land tool development.

Contact: Nicole Ganzekaufer: Nicole.Ganzekaufer@huairou.org

The Global Land Tools Network is a UN Habitat-led international network that aims to establish a continuum of land rights, rather than just focus on land titling, and to develop and improve land management and land tenure tools. The aim of the Grassroots Mechanism Workshop will be to develop a rigorous approach and agreed upon methodology for ensuring that grassroots participation is a key part of the evaluation and design of large scale land tools. This will mean understanding the approaches available, the appropriate research methods, lessons learned from existing community approaches, the relationship between scalability and grassroots participation, and what methods are practical and cost effective. A pre-workshop paper will also be provided in advance of the workshop to stimulate ideas and provide a platform for a focused discussion.
