The Huairou Commission is sending 100% of funds donated here directly to organized local communities in the Philippines for immediate relief following Typhoon Haiyan.
We are using our online payment system to collect donations for local relief efforts. All funds will go directly to the ground, into the hands of grassroots women's networks who have been organizing in their own communities for nearly 3 decades, in partnership with government authorities.
As an organization, we celebrate the work grassroots women are doing around the world to improve their communities. Today, we celebrate International Day of Rural Women and International Day for Disaster Reduction (IDDR, October 13th) by highlighting submissions from our member groups in different regions of the world.
Twenty years after the Latur earthquake in Maharashtra, India on September 30, 1993, thousands of grassroots women continue to protect, develop and secure their communities through the work of Swayam Shikshan Prayog (SSP). The Huairou Commission and GROOTS International join member group SSP and their Sakhi (women leader) Federations in honoring the vigilance and leadership of women as we celebrate their 20 year anniversary.
